Izzy Brown has told Leeds United fans to “keep the faith” despite Monday evening’s 2-0 defeat to Brentford, which has left Marcelo Bielsa’s side with little chance of gaining automatic promotion.
Leeds remain in third and are now three points behind Sheffield United following the loss. The Blades went three points clear earlier on in the day after beating Hull City 3-0 away from home.
Neal Maupay scored his 24th league goal of the season with an exquisite finish, before Sergi Canos bundled home a second in the second half. Leeds looked flat, and devoid of any creativity.
Brown, who has only featured for the senior side on one occasion since joining the club on loan from Chelsea, urged fans to remain upbeat on Twitter despite the disappointing loss.
TBR’s view
Though it is mathematically possible that Leeds can still qualify for the automatic promotion slots, Bielsa has to start planning for the Championship play-offs.
Leeds face a flying Aston Villa on Sunday, who earned their tenth win in a row with a 1-0 victory over Millwall last time out. They then travel to Ipswich, who already relegated – and are playing with freedom.
Sheffield United take on Ipswich on Saturday, before travelling to Stoke who earned a point against Norwich City. Chris Wilder’s side really need just three points given their superior goal difference. Leeds have it all to do.
