Tottenham Hotspur coach Ledley King believes Spurs defender Cristian Romero is going to become a “top, top player”.

The Tottenham icon was speaking on Reece Mennie’s Mennie Talks podcast, as transcribed by the Daily Star.

Fabio Paratici snapped up Romero last summer from Atalanta and he has bolstered Tottenham’s defensive ranks considerably.

The 23-year-old spent some time on the sidelines with a hamstring injury but returned to action in February.

Since then, Romero has cemented his place in the Spurs starting XI and has been impressive for Antonio Conte’s side.

The Argentina international delivered arguably his best Tottenham display in last weekend’s 5-1 win over Newcastle.

Romero kept Allan Saint-Maximin quiet throughout and made a crucial block to thwart Joe Willock from close range.

As well as making key tackles and important blocks, he was also composed in possession and passing.

As per LiveScore, Romero made the most tackles (6) and won possession the most times (11) of anyone on the field.

He also completed 77 passes with a completion rate of 93.9 percent.

King said: “I’ve been very impressed with Romero.

“I think he’s going to be a top, top player. In his first season, he’s been excellent.”

With Romero marshalling the defence, Tottenham have kept three clean sheets in their last six matches.

Spurs have also shipped just four goals in the same period.

Romero has found form at a key point in the season and Tottenham are now surely favourites for a top-four finish.

Up next for Spurs is Aston Villa away in the Premier League this Saturday.
