'I've been told': Romano says £21m star would love to join Liverpool, Klopp could make late move
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Renato Sanches would ‘love’ to move to Liverpool and back to the Premier League in an interview with Anfield Watch.
Romano provided a big update on Sanches’s potential move to Liverpool, which has been heavily speculated about in recent days.
The transfer guru suggested that Liverpool have been tracking the midfielder’s progress for six years now, since he started at Benfica in 2015.
It has taken some time for Liverpool to really consider making a move, though.
Jurgen Klopp’s side now are thought to be interested again, although Romano insists that any deal is not imminent.
Instead he claims that Liverpool fans may have to wait until late in the transfer market to see any movement, even if the transfer would appeal to the 23-year-old, who is rated at £21 million (90 Minutes).
“I’m happy that the rumour is back for Renato, as he has always been on the list for Liverpool,” Romano said.
“They have been appreciating him since he was playing with Benfica and then he moved to Bayern before Lille.
“They have always been counting on him and always interested in him.
“Before signing this kind of player it takes time, you have to find agreements with the player and club, and also his agent Jorge Mendes is not an easy one.
“It’s not an easy negotiation. From what I know it’s not a done deal or at advanced stages.
“What I’ve been told is that the strategy for Liverpool is not immediately going for a midfielder, but I think they want to wait. Their priority is to go for some wingers.
“Then at the end of the market maybe some opportunity may be open for some midfielder. We need to wait a bit on this deal, but they have always been appreciating Renato and he would love to go back to the Premier League.”
If Liverpool were to sign Sanches they would be showing a significant amount of faith in him.
The midfielder’s previous spell in the Premier League with Swansea City did not go according to plan, although he was much younger then.
It is his form at Lille recently which is likely to have caught Liverpool’s eye again.
He has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s top prospects and also looks to have the perfect skill set to fit in at Liverpool, given his boundless energy and strong technical skill.
And if he was to arrive at Klopp’s side he could have the quality to immediately impact on their starting line-up.
