Ivan Toney suggested as Leeds United transfer target but reported £13m price-tag a stumbling block

Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney has been suggested as a potential transfer target for Leeds United in the January transfer window.

It comes amid growing rumors that Eddie Nketiah could be recalled by Arsenal and loaned elsewhere in January. The popular forward has been a potent threat from the Leeds bench this season but is having to play second fiddle to Patrick Bamford more than the Gunners would have liked.

Leeds Live has put together a list of players Leeds might want to consider targeting. Whilst they are not suggesting a deal for Toney is in the works, the report does highlight how impressive a signing Toney might be.

The report also flags a potential stumbling block. The Posh are financially sound and would not need to sell in January. Hard negotiator Darragh MacAnthony would undoubtedly want what Leeds Live suggests, ‘a sizeable fee’, which ‘could price Leeds out’ of a deal.

Rightly so, considering the former Newcastle United talent’s form in League One so far this season.

Toney has scored 12 goals in 17 league games this season, continuing his fine form from last campaign, when he scored 23 goals.

Unfortunately for Leeds, as reported by The Sun earlier this month, Toney is being valued at a whopping £13 million and the Posh are not a team to except less than their terms. Big fees have previously been paid for the likes of Dwight Gayle, Britt Assombalonga and Jack Marriott.

At the moment, there is no suggestion Leeds are in fact looking at a deal for Toney but they would absolutely be on the right path if he was on their radar. But that £13 million price-tag undoubtedly makes any potential deal extremely unlikely.
