Ivan Toney now sends four-word message to 25-year-old Arsenal star amid January transfer links

Arsenal fans are certainly not hiding the fact that they’d love the club to sign a striker in January, and in particular, Ivan Toney.

The Brentford forward is now very close to a Premier League return and could be fantastic under Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have been consistently linked with a move for Toney since the summer, something that has only been exacerbated by their recent troubles in front of goal.

As a result, Arsenal fans will be watching Toney’s every movement very closely until the January transfer deadline.

Arteta is thought to be hamstrung by the club’s FFP restrictions this month, but it’s not impossible that things could change.

Arsenal have saleable assets, and Toney’s contract does expire in 18-months.

That being said, it will certainly catch the attention of fans that the striker has now sent a message to Declan Rice on Instagram.

The duo have featured in the same England squad previously and clearly struck a rapport.

And given today is Declan Rice’s birthday, turning 25-years-old, Toney was quick to share his congratulations.

Posting on his Instagram story, Toney said: “Happy birthday my guy.”

Of course, the message is nothing groundbreaking, however, it could bode well in the long run.

Although a move seems very difficult this month as stated, there’s good reason to think Arsenal could push for Toney in the summer.

It seems the next step of Mikel Arteta’s project will be to add an elite goal-scorer, it just wasn’t expected to be so crucial, so soon.

Perhaps Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah inefficiencies in front of goal have been a little exaggerated, they’re both still excellent forwards.

But Arsenal would look better positioned if Toney replaced one of the duo in January – with it looking impossible that Jesus will leave.

Should Arsenal eventually replace Nketiah with Toney, they certainly would be in an excellent position.

And if that’s a move that waits until the summer, there could be a crucial opportunity for Arteta to sign a player on loan this month
