Leeds United were linked with a host of names over the summer. Plenty of the rumours seemed to carry little to no weight but others seemed very plausible.
One that fell into the latter category revolved around Croatian midfielder Ivan Sunjic.
Interest in the Dinamo Zagreb player originally emanated from the Daily Mail. It was then reported in Croatia. Sportske Novosti suggested that Leeds had entered a £3.5 million bid for the player. The report claimed Leeds would have to nearly double that offer to make a deal happen which, considering Leeds’ tight purse strings in the summer, made a move unlikely.
He seemed a top young midfield talent who could add some depth to the Leeds team.

In the end, he did head to the Championship, but not to West Yorkshire.
Instead, Sunjic headed to the Midlands, joining Birmingham City in a deal worth a reported (BBC) £6.3 million.
He has gone on to become a big hit at St Andrew’s. Playing under the management of former Leeds United assistant Pep Clotet, the 23-year-old has become an ever-present in the heart of the Blues midfield.
Leeds’s first game after the international break is against Birmingham and Sunjic will be tasked with dominating the likes of Mateusz Klich, Adam Forshaw, and Kalvin Phillips.
He will certainly hope to show Leeds United just what they are missing in that clash on the 19th.
