Ivan Perisic being fit for Tottenham v Arsenal has given Conte the edge over Arteta
For Tottenham, the upcoming clash with local rivals Arsenal is their biggest game of the season so far.
Both North London clubs have started the season quite brilliantly and while it’s Arsenal who sit top of the pile, it is indeed Tottenham who remain undefeated in Premier League action. Of course, both teams will fancy themselves for the three points and the chance to lay a really big marker down domestically.
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte will no doubt have his team well up for the game. They play with an intensity Arsenal might not have faced just yet this season. Indeed, we saw at Old Trafford when things got a bit scrappy and the crowd got behind United, the Gunners couldn’t quite keep things their own way.
And while the international break represents a nightmare for managers as they wait to see who keeps fit, Tottenham have been given the best news possible when it comes to their new winger, Ivan Perisic.
Perisic Return A Game Changer For Tottenham
There was concern prior to the weekend for Perisic. Having hobbled about in Croatia’s clash with Denmark, the experienced wide man posted on Instagram earlier today to show he’s fine and training as normal.
Naturally, this is the sort of news Tottenham fans – and Conte – wanted to see. And at the same time, it gives Tottenham a massive step in the right direction when it comes to beating Arsenal.
Yes, there is more to a North London Derby than having one player fit. But we are talking about a player in Perisic who has changed the dynamic for Spurs. His two-footed approach to wing play has been bamboozling defenders and Arsenal’s right-hand side – likely to be marshalled by Ben White – could be in for a tricky day.
Eyebrows were raised by some when Conte demanded 33-year-old Perisic be signed. But just weeks into the season it is abundantly clear why Conte wanted him so much. And with Tottenham desperate to beat Arsenal, Persic’s welcome fitness boost means Spurs will be more confident than ever.
Now, it’s just a case of a certain Harry Kane getting through tomorrow ok, and Spurs fans can look forward to next weekend.
