Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has enjoyed a hugely successful campaign away on loan at Celtic, and he has now claimed that he wants to leave Spurs on a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old, branded as ‘outstanding’ by Micah Richards, joined Spurs’ youth academy all the way back in 2009. He has come through the ranks at Tottenham and has always been viewed as a talented defender.

Carter-Vickers, like any other player, was desperate for an opportunity in the Spurs first team. However, he has only ever played five games for the senior side – which is less than the number of clubs he has been loaned out to in his career so far (7).

Celtic have an option to sign Carter-Vickers this summer and they are expected to trigger it. The youngster seems open to a permanent switch away from Spurs as well.

Cameron Carter-Vickers wants to leave Tottenham

Speaking about his future beyond the end of his loan spell, Cater-Vickers told The Scottish Sun: “I have really enjoyed it at Celtic. We were good to watch and an enjoyable team to play in.

“I am 24 now and want to be somewhere where I can settle for a few years. Me and my agent have been talking to the club throughout the season about what’s going to happen at the end of the season. But, obviously, it’s not just my decision.

“Celtic have to come to some kind of agreement with Tottenham, so it’s not completely in my hands.

“I just want to be somewhere playing football. If I’m being completely honest, I think it’s time to move on permanently. I’m happy with last season. I really enjoyed my time there.”

TBR View:

Carter-Vickers will not get a chance at Tottenham ahead of the likes of Cristian Romero and Eric Dier. Spurs are even planning to sign a new centre-half this summer, which further eliminates the need for the 24-year-old.

The American will enter the final year of his contract in July, and even if Celtic don’t reach an agreement to sign him from Spurs, it is very likely that Daniel Levy will try to sell him to another club.

After a season as successful as the last one, Carter-Vickers will definitely not be short of suitors. Reports have revealed that Newcastle United, West Ham, Southampton, Everton, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Fulham are all interested in signing him this summer.

It almost looks certain that Carter-Vickers will leave Spurs, and we must say, it’s the best thing for all parties involved.
