Spurs have been rocked this week with the news that Heung Min Son will now miss the majority of the campaign.

The South Korean forward requires surgery on an arm injury and Jose Mourinho has confirmed he expects Son to miss the rest of the season.

The loss of Son is a massive blow to Spurs. Furthermore, it will impact their Champions League hopes significantly.

Including Harry Kane being out, it means Spurs are now without two players who have contributed 33 Premier League goals between them already. It is, as they say, a massive headache for Mourinho.

It means, then, that someone in the Spurs squad will need to step up to the plate.

And while all eyes will turn to the likes of Lucas and Dele Alli, other players will need to make contributions.

That’s why the likes of Erik Lamela and summer signing Gio Lo Celso really need to show their worth now.

Goals are there…they just need to show it

The South American duo are both talented players. There is no doubt they have the ability to deliver at the highest of levels.

Lamela has never quite hit the heights many expected when he signed. However, he did manage four goals last season and contributed five goals and nine assists in his best campaign in 2016. It is proof, then, that Lamela can turn it on when needed.

Lo Celso, meanwhile, has yet to hit the net for Spurs. But again, he is a player who can do it. He scored nine times last season in La Liga for Real Betis.

Put simply, the Spurs squad are going to have to shoulder a big burden for the next few months. It’s a real test of their credentials as a group.

Of course, any squad would suffer from losses like Kane and Son.

But in Lo Celso and Lamela, Spurs do have two players who, on their day, can deliver. Mourinho and Spurs fans, then, will be hoping the Argentinian can indeed come up trumps.
