‘It’s so silly’… Gary Neville not happy with what £50m Arsenal player did in the first-half vs Liverpool

Gary Neville was not at all impressed by Ben White at one stage during the first-half as Arsenal went on to beat Liverpool to blow the Premier League title race wide open.

The Gunners secured a massive win on Sunday. Arsenal were, by far, the better side against the Reds, and got their rewards with two goals in the second-half.

It was particularly impressive given that Liverpool ended the first-half by equalising thanks to a Gabriel Magalhaes own goal.

Gary Neville criticises Ben White after yellow card

Another mistake from Arsenal during the first 45 minutes came from Ben White. White was awarded a free-kick inside his own half after being fouled by Alexis Mac Allister.

White took too long to take the free-kick however. And that prompted Anthony Taylor to book the England international for time-wasting.

The decision came shortly after Joe Gomez had been booked for what appeared to be a needless foul on Kai Havertz as Arsenal launched a counter attack.

And speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 4/2; 17:02), Gary Neville was extremely critical of White getting himself in the book just after the half-hour mark.

“It’s so silly from Ben White. Talked about Gomez making it a difficult game for himself and White’s done the same,” he said.

Arsenal not punished for defender’s error

Fortunately for Arsenal, the mistake from the £50 million man did not cost them. White was able to keep his discipline. He certainly did benefit from Liverpool largely struggling to lay a glove on the Gunners after the equaliser.

It was almost surprising that Liverpool did not kick on in the second-half. But the second Arsenal goal did shift the momentum again. And Mikel Arteta’s side kicked on from there.

It was Ibrahima Konate who ended up receiving a second yellow card during the second-half. Konate was unlucky to be booked initially after what appeared to be a fair battle with Havertz. However, he can have few complaints about the second yellow card.

Liverpool certainly did not look like overwhelming title favourites. And Arsenal have put themselves right back into the mix as the business end of the campaign really gets underway.
