Chris Sutton has reacted to some of the comments he has heard from Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte lately.

He says that nothing would surprise him with Conte, who seems to swing between being content with where Spurs are heading and becoming frustrated with their lack of progress.

Spurs have been starting games slowly lately, sometimes coming back to get crucial results but they were unable to get back into it against Liverpool on Sunday.

Sutton told the Monday Night Club on the BBC that Conte may well decide one day he had enough; you just don’t know what to expect from him.

Sutton on Conte

Sutton said: “He’s a bit strange isn’t he, Conte? He is! You just don’t know what he’s actually thinking or what’s coming next. Nothing would surprise me with Conte.

“One day he might have had enough and just walk away from Spurs. I think he has improved Spurs but all season the performances haven’t been there.

“The comment he keeps making is that we have just started this process. Well he’s been in there over a year. Some of the signings have been good, but then another comment he keeps saying is that the players are tired.

“Well, for a team which are tired they are not half finishing games strongly! The frustration clearly is that if we actually started games like we finished we would be alright.

“It’s really weird what’s going on.”

Conte is a firebrand manager who keeps everyone on their toes with his constant energy and agitation for changes and progress.

Spurs are not where he needs them to be, but they have improved their results under him and have gone from the Europa Conference League to the Champions League knockout rounds within a year.

But as Sutton alludes to, there is this unpredictability to Conte. That may not result in him leaving, but it seems he never likes to get too comfortable either.
