‘It’s out of order’… Ian Wright left furious after hearing rumour involving Manchester United

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been left annoyed after hearing a rumour involving Manchester United.

Despite the fact that Erik ten Hag remains firmly in with a chance of picking up more silverware at Manchester United this season, his future at Old Trafford is uncertain.

The Dutchman delivered a League Cup in his debut campaign last time out and United will face Coventry City in this year’s FA Cup semi-final after beating Liverpool last weekend.

But due to the recent arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, Ten Hag has plenty of work to do to prove he’s the man to take United forward.

Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi is just one name to be linked with the hot seat at Old Trafford and Gareth Southgate has been thrown into the mix in recent days.

Indeed, EPSN have recently claimed that the England boss is one of the names under consideration should United decide on a change in the dugout.

And Ian Wright feels the rumours are completely unfair on both Ten Hag and Southgate.

Wright furious after Southgate to Man United rumours

Speaking on The Overlap’s Stick to Football, Wright reacted to rumours linking Southgate with a move to Manchester.

“For them to be talking about it now is a bit off key, putting off Gareth like that,” the Arsenal legend said. “The fact is that if he doesn’t win the FA Cup Ten Hag or get into the top four then you probably can have those conversations but at the moment he looks like he might do something.

“You see Gareth and, yeah, he’s a stand-up guy and you could see how it could be but it shouldn’t be now. It’s out of order. Because of Erik ten Hag.

“I can’t even get into the world of the pressure he is under. I think that as well when I say things about the structure and we’re not seeing this or the players haven’t improved but I can’t get into the pressure this man is under.”

Southgate to Man United?

It’s fair to say that Southgate wouldn’t be the most popular choice should United decide to move in a different direction this summer.

The 53-year-old has done an incredible job with the England team after taking over a side which had struggled at major tournaments before his arrival.

Despite not delivering the ultimate success, he’s guided the Three Lions to a Euros final, as well as World Cup semi-finals and quarter-finals.

But we have to agree with Wright here that the timing of these rumours isn’t exactly ideal for either manager.

There’s no getting away from the fact that this season has been underwhelming for United but Ten Hag still has the opportunity to lift the FA Cup.

As for Southgate, he will be hoping to deliver success at a major tournament in what could be his last chance to do so as England boss.
