It’s now so clear that Arsenal got the best end of the Mkhitaryan and Sanchez swap

Injured Alexis Sanchez could be allowed to leave Manchester United on loan during the summer, according to the Sun.

The Chilean winger could apparently be out of action for the remainder of the campaign with the injury he picked up against Southampton and upon his return, he can expect to find himself outside Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Old Trafford plans.

And that injury only makes an ageing player who is earning a heap of money even less attractive to potential suitors, raising the prospect he could leave on loan, just 18 months after joining from Arsenal.

When that swap deal which took Henrikh Mkhitaryan the other way took place in January 2018, there appeared to be little doubt that United had the better end of the deal – which was seen as another symptom of Arsene Wenger’s decline.

But Sanchez’s steep decline and potential exit is in contrast to a decent little recent run Mkhitaryan has enjoyed – two goals and three assists in his last three Premier League matches.

Mkhitaryan has not set English football alight but he remains a diligent, creative midfielder who has not been a bust in the same way that Sanchez was.

It’s now so clear that Wenger got it right last January, and did well to get a player in as part of a swap as opposed to letting him leave for free – or on loan as United may need to do now.
