‘It’s not fair’… Gilberto Silva says 26-year-old Arsenal player is being unfairly criticised

Gilberto Silva has now been admitting his frustration with negative comments he’s been hearing about a current Arsenal player recently.

Mikel Arteta’s side are in an exceptional spot right now, the squad is defensively solid, scoring goals and getting players back from injury.

And when Brentford come to visit this weekend, Arteta will be wary of any heads already looking towards a huge tie against FC Porto a few days later.

Arsenal’s late defeat in Portugal has added a bit more jeopardy to the home leg, when The Gunners will need a customary fast start.

That being said, Gabriel Jesus has often been the player to light up the Champions League this season, and it’ll be interesting to see if he is handed a start against Brentford in preparation.

And to that end, former Arsenal player Gilberto Silva has now been discussing Jesus’ position at the club, and some comparisons to Thierry Henry.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, Silva also mentioned some unfair criticism he’s heard in his compatriot’s direction this season, too.

Gilberto Silva says Arsenal player Gabriel Jesus doesn’t deserve negative comments

Understandably, Silva didn’t think Jesus was ready to be compared to Henry, very few strikers ever will, but he did think his former teammate could prove as an inspiration.

Silva said: “We cannot compare him with Thierry, who was out of this world.

“But for him, Thierry can be an inspiration to do the best he can in the way he does to help the team.

“Sometimes for people and old players to make negative comments, it’s not fair to him.”

Of course, Silva is probably referring to comments critiquing Jesus’ potency in front of goal.

There’s no doubt that the Brazilian is one of the world’s best pressing forwards, a player who is also so adept at linking play with his teammates.

But given Jesus has only scored 15 goals in 44 Premier League games for Arsenal, some deem that to be below par regardless.

And that perhaps explains why Arsenal are said to be lining up two very big deals this summer
