Declan Rice has suggested that working alongside with Harry Kane is incredible, suggesting that he is always trying to learn from the Tottenham Hotspur talisman.

The West Ham captain was speaking to Stadium Astro about what it is like to go away and work with his England teammates.

Of course, Declan Rice is only 24. However, he is a massive part of the sides for club and country. And his status as a leader was confirmed officially ahead of this season, with the midfielder becoming West Ham skipper in the wake of Mark Noble’s retirement.

Rice noted earlier in the interview that West Ham have a long history of having some exceptional captains. But it is not only at the London Stadium where he can look for examples in leadership.

Many of the current England squad are now key players for their respective club sides. And Rice suggested that you can always learn a lot from the experience of linking up with the Three Lions – particularly when it comes to working with Harry Kane.

“It’s incredible because you’re surrounded by world class players, world class leaders and a lot of captains for their clubs. The biggest clubs in England. So you have to take a little bit from them,” he told Stadium Astro.

“Seeing Harry Kane close up, how he is a leader, Harry Maguire, how he is as a person and how he manages captaining Man United and the expectations. It’s one I’m trying to learn from each person.”

Kane is someone who will inspire a lot of the current squad. He is the record goalscorer for both England and Tottenham. He is his country’s captain. And he is unquestionably a leader for Spurs.

There is very little controversy surrounding the 29-year-old. Of course, you would imagine that he would have wanted to scream about the situation at Tottenham at times. And yet, he largely keeps any frustrations behind closed doors.

That has surely helped put Kane on the path to becoming one of the greatest goalscorers the country has had.

And Rice may be hoping to follow a similar route in his particular role.
