‘It’s in my plan’: £80k-a-week Spurs star outlines intention to leave North London in 2023

Tottenham attacker Lucas Moura has laid out his intention of returning to Sao Paulo after his tenth year in Europe.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, the Spurs winger revealed that his plan was always to play in Europe for ten years before returning to Sao Paulo. Lucas left Brazil in 2013 when PSG signed the winger when he was a teenager.

Whilst Lucas didn’t reach the heights that many thought he would when he moved to Europe, the Brazilian forward has developed into a solid top-flight player. The winger is a fan-favourite at Tottenham.

Indeed, the £80k-a-week attacker’s current deal with Spurs ends in 2024. But Lucas seems eager to return to Brazil once he has played ten years of football in Europe.

How Hearts became the UK's BIGGEST fan-owned club

Lucas told ESPN about his plans for the future: “It’s in my plans to go back to Brazil, back to Sao Paulo. I never hid it from anyone, I never hid the affection and love I feel for Sao Paulo.

“When I left Sao Paulo, I said I wanted to stay for 10 years in Europe. Come rain, come shine, my goal, my plan is to stay 10 years”

With the Brazilian giants the club Lucas made his name at, it makes sense why the winger is eager to return home after playing at the top of the European game for the past ten years.

South American players returning home is hardly anything new, with Willian this summer re-signing for Corinthians after being released by Arsenal. And Lucas appears to be keen to follow a similar route that has been well-trodden over the years.
