A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Guillem Balague’s report about Thomas Partey’s future.
The Telegraph reported in May that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is interested in signing the Atletico Madrid man, who in turn would be open to a move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Partey has come through the ranks at Atletico and has made 174 competitive senior appearances, registering 15 goals and 12 assists, and has helped Los Colchoneros win the 2017-18 Europa League and the 2018 UEFA Super Cup.
Spanish football expert Balague claimed during a Q&A session on his official YouTube channel that Atletico want Partey to sign a new deal to remove his £44.5million release clause – but the player is seemingly refusing to sign.
“What I am hearing, he has a buyout clause of €50million, and Atletico would like him to sign a new contract,” Balague said. “But he is not signing a new contract, that is as much as I can tell you.
“Has there been contact? There was a very clear possibility of him moving to England last summer. Spurs, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all enquired. That is as much as we can say.”
Speculation linking Partey to Arsenal gathered pace in April when his father was quoted as saying that both parties have been in contact about a possible switch to London.
“I called my son after hearing the rumours and he told me that the rumours are true,” Jacob Partey told Tru FM’s Sports World Show, as quoted by Football London. “He told me they are holding talks between him and Arsenal.”
Though the player’s agency, JJ Sports, subsequently told Marca that the speculation linking him with the Gunners was “all fake”, reports continue to emerge linking the two parties together.
And Balague’s latest comments prompted some Arsenal fans on social media to rejoice in what they feel is a prospective deal with the signs pointing in the right direction:

Stay as negative as possible so when it doesn’t happen it won’t hurt as much

There must be something in that new contract he doesn’t like. As long as it’s there the links to Arsenal will remain.

Only chance of him going to Arsenal is a swap deal I suspect, unless they somehow cash in on a player or two elsewhere
