Arsenal legend Ian Wright has urged Mikel Arteta to stop avoiding questions about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Gunners boss refused to talk about the Gabon star after his side’s 2-0 win over West Ham last night. He chose to focus on the performance and the players that were involved instead.

Wright, who sat alongside Alan Shearer in the Matchday Live studio, wanted Arteta to ‘quash’ the whole story surrounding Aubameyang by delivering a definitive answer. He feels that would’ve put everything to bed, but the Arsenal boss decided against that.

The Englishman now feels that questions about Aubameyang will be a recurring theme going forward, which isn’t ideal at all.

Ian Wright: Arteta should stop avoiding questions about Aubameyang

Wright said on Premier League Productions right after the game last night, as quoted by The Metro: “He’s just not entertaining anything to do with Aubameyang and I totally understand when he says he just wants to concentrate on what happened today and he doesn’t want to talk about it.

“But, I don’t think you can continue to avoid it, especially in the way that it has come about. At some stage, you’re going to have to quash it or talk about it. He’s got the capability of killing it and saying, “Yeah, he’s in the plans and he’s an Arsenal player”, and he didn’t do it.

“I was hoping for something like that because what you want now is everything’s done, Arsenal have won, they’ve played brilliantly, the boss has been vindicated for his decisions. So, just quash it so they can move on.

“It’s going to be talked about again, they will mention it again for the next game. And then if he’s not in the next game… so he can kill it, that’s all I’m saying. Kill it.”

Wright’s right, Arteta will have to keep answering questions about Aubameyang until he puts an end to it with a definitive answer. However, the Arsenal boss may not know what he’s going to do with the Gabon star himself.

Aubameyang has been dropped indefinitely and that that has cast a huge shadow over his future. The January transfer window is under a couple of weeks away and Xavi’s Barcelona are reportedly keen.

If Arteta does not want to reintegrate Aubameyang into the squad, he will try to push the striker out in January. That will end all the questions from the media, but if this drags on beyond the end of next month’s window, he will have to speak about the situation every time he faces the media.
