Jurgen Klopp took midfielder Thiago off late on in Liverpool’s thrashing of Manchester United at Anfield last night.

The Spaniard put on a clinic against the Reds’ bitter rivals, playing the game completely at his own pace and running the show.

But Klopp needs to keep his squad fit and fresh and took Thiago off late on, with the game sewn up, before admitting to beIN Sports that the former Bayern Munich man wanted to stay on.

“He’s an outstanding player and it’s the same for him to make sure that he can keep the rhythm and play as often as possible and we judge the situation right,” said Klopp of Thiago.

“When we can use him and when not, He didn’t like it, he wanted to stay on the pitch again for five, six minutes, it’s crazy and I like the desire.

“He played a proper game and it was outstanding and how he counter pressed tonight and flew into situations, it was mad!

“That makes the player, that’s the full package. Being that animal in the moment he loses the ball, I couldn’t respect him more.”

United decided to try and sit off but their gameplan was blown apart with Liverpool’s first attack of the game, as they scored through Luis Diaz.

Thiago had so much space on the pitch and when he is in this mood, he is a wonderful player to watch.

Klopp knew there are bigger challenges ahead than this one and needs his top players fresh during a gruelling schedule.

It is not surprising Thiago wanted to stay out there but it made sense to take him off and next up is Everton, whose away form should have Liverpool licking their lips.
