The Scottish midfielder fell awkwardly on his ankle yesterday as Villa lost 3-1 to Southampton. McGinn has been the key player for Villa this season and looked in a lot of pain as he left the field.
Dean Smith has already confirmed McGinn is set for scans. Although Smith did say things ‘didn’t look good’ for his key midfielder.

It’s a case, then, of playing the waiting game for Villa fans today.
However, when news of the injury broke on Twitter yesterday, a whole host of Villa fans were unhappy. Indeed, a lot of their unhappiness seemed to be directed at Smith.
Furthermore, a number of Villans claimed they had called for Smith to rest McGinn. He had previously started every single Premier League game so far this season.
well you just knew that was gonna happen!

Finally, some Villa fans had a dig at Dean Smith for how he handled the injury. McGinn’s replacement, Marvelous Nakamba, not going down well with the Villa faithful.
Should have been Trez or Lansbury for me, this move just invited Southampton to attack.

TBR View
Things are just starting to turn a bit toxic at Villa Park at the moment. A lot of money was spent in the summer. A lot of that money appears to be wasted.
Dean Smith needs a win, and fast. If Villa continue this run of form, they’ll be down.
They also need John McGinn back from injury. No team can survive without its best players. McGinn is certainly one of those for the Villans.
