‘It’s a big gamble’… Pundit says Man Utd would be taking a huge risk if they hired 48-year-old manager

Erik Ten Hag’s job at Manchester United is far from secure.

The Dutchman is under lots of pressure at the moment as United sit mid-table in the Premier League, and for the so-called biggest club in the world, that isn’t good enough.

There’ve been plenty of reports across the season that Ten Hag is on the brink at Old Trafford, and Graham Potter has been linked as a potential replacement.

However, speaking on Premier League Productions, Clinton Morrison has been discussing the idea of Potter moving to Old Trafford now, and he says that it would be a huge gamble for United to appoint the 48-year-old after his torrid spell at Chelsea.

Potter would be a huge gamble

Morrison shared his verdict on the idea of Potter coming to United.

“I understand that but I think it’s a gamble. You saw what happened at Chelsea and Man United are a huge football club. His biggest problem was keeping everyone happy, he was playing players out of position, I remember him playing Sterling as a wing-back, for me it’s a big gamble, they need to sort their squad out there and get some better players in the squad,” Morrison said.

Massive gamble

Morrison is spot on, this would be a huge gamble if United were to hire Potter now.

The 48-year-old is damaged goods. He had a terrible time of it at Chelsea, and there are huge questions around whether or not he’s actually cut out to manage a big club.

Potter couldn’t handle the big egos at Chelsea, and if he struggled at Stamford Bridge, he’ll be in for another big shock if he came to Old Trafford.

If United are indeed to replace Ten Hag, they need someone who is proven at the top level, not someone who has failed the only time he was given a shot at managing a big club.
