Former Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour has been praised for his latest Napoli performance, in which he finally scored his first goal for the club.
Despite signing for the Italian giants in 2024, the Scottish midfielder only opened his account for Napoli this past weekend in their five-goal thriller against Pisa.
Napoli picked up an important three points with a 3-2 win, and Gilmour scored the first goal of the game to give his team the perfect start.
Gilmour is best known for his passing range and ability to break up play, but adding goals to his game will only improve him as a footballer.

Italian media hail composed Billy Gilmour’s Napoli performance
Gilmour has been a regular within the Napoli side since moving from Brighton & Hove Albion, forming a strong midfield partnership with Scott McTominay, which the arrival of Kevin de Bruyne has since bolstered.
Gilmour typically plays the defensive midfield role in front of the back four, which has not led to many opportunities for goals, but he showed that he has it in his locker this past weekend.
The Italian media have reacted to his performance, with Corriere dello Sport awarding his performance a seven out of 10.
“First goal for Napoli in his first start of the new season. His feint on Aebischer was that of a seasoned playmaker, and his playmaking was his usual punctual pace.”
Meanwhile, Euro Sport Italy also rated the midfielder a seven out of 10, praising his calmness on the ball against Pisa.
“Struggles to find space, but maintains composure. He eventually scores his first professional goal, beating Semper and putting Napoli ahead.”
Billy Gilmour continues to go from strength to strength
Gilmour might not be known as a goalscoring machine, but the 24-year-old midfielder continues to go from strength to strength in his career.
The Scotland international showed much promise at the start of his career at Chelsea, winning the Academy Player of the Year award in 2020.
While he didn’t get to live up to that at Stamford Bridge, he has proven his qualities ever since, both in the Premier League and now in Europe.
Gilmour thrived at Brighton during his time with the Seagulls, but due to his performance level at Napoli, he’s been able to step it up again since joining.
