Well-respected Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has told Area Napoli that Erik Lamela will leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer and return to Italy – with his wife also keen to relocate where he left in the summer of 2013.

Lamela, 29, is set to enter the last 12 months of his contract at Spurs despite featuring 33 times for the North London club this season. He has been linked with the exit door for some time, having scored just four goals during 2020-21.

Bologna have been strongly linked with the Argentina international, who cost Spurs a whopping £30million eight years ago. Clubs such as Napoli are also said to be keen, and now Lamela’s stance has been explained in Italy.

Pedulla – who is renowned for his transfer knowledge – has claimed that Lamela will leave Tottenham and return to Italy this summer. He states that both Lamela, and his wife, want to return to the country they left in 2013.

“Lamela and his wife have the same desire: to return to Italy. Lamela, in all likelihood, at the end of the current football season, will leave Tottenham to try a new experience. He wants to join an important club,” Pedulla said.

TBR’s view – Lamela needs to leave Tottenham

While he has been an excellent servant for Spurs and a good squad player throughout his time at the North London club, Lamela needs to leave at an important stage in his career. He turns 30 next season.

He needs to be playing regular football in order to extend the amount of time he has left in professional football. The more he plays now, the more he can continue playing – and to do that, he needs to leave Spurs this summer.
