It was Ange Postecoglou not Fabio Paratici who convinced Tottenham to sign £17m player

Whilst Fabio Paratici still has a huge influence on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfers to this day, it was Ange Postecoglou who pushed for one summer deal.

When looking back to who arrived at Spurs in the summer, the club barely put a foot wrong.

Perhaps Brennan Johnson is yet to justify his lofty fee, but that should come in time for the 22-year-old.

Otherwise, the likes of James Maddison, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario have all been excellent, players who made an immediate impact.

Paratici still takes a lot of the credit for this success, and it’s understandable given he did convince James Maddison to choose the club over Newcastle United.

However, according to a report by The Athletic, it was Postecoglou who pushed for one crucial deal for Tottenham, not Paractici.

Although the Italian approved a deal for Vicario, it was Postecoglou who chose the keeper ahead of a lot of other candidates for the role.

Postecoglou made a beeline for Vicario – one that has paid dividends.

The £17m Tottenham paid for the keeper now looks to be an absolute steal, and the deal must be a satisfying one for his manager.

Replacing Hugo Lloris wasn’t meant to be easy, but Spurs made it look so.

Of course, as long as Spurs sign the right players, fans probably won’t mind where the idea stemmed from.

However, Paratici does seem to have the golden touch in these matters, hence why Tottenham are so happy for him to stick around.

Although, this report does also confirm that a deal for Timo Werner was a rarity in that it didn’t come from the Italian.

Given Werner’s struggles at Chelsea and his subsequent failure to rediscover his form at RB Leipzig, Spurs are taking a risk.

However, a six month loan deal with a reasonable option to buy seems very sensible, a microcosm of the way in which the club now operates.

That being said, it seems Spurs do still have one more target in mind for this window, and they may have now found their man.

Between Paratici and Postecoglou, Tottenham have an excellent wealth of knowledge, and they’re certainly in good standing for the future.
