‘It sounds crazy’…Ally McCoist couldn’t believe what he saw £40m Tottenham player do v Everton today

Tottenham ended up taking just a draw from Everton today as they conceded yet another late goal to throw away three points.

Despite twice going ahead through Richarlison, Tottenham couldn’t see the game out as Jarrad Branthwaite bundled the ball over the line past a disappointed Vicario.

Of course, before that, Tottenham had ample chances to win the game. Not least from the fact Richarlison had given them the lead twice in the opening 45 minutes.

Richarlison’s second goal was particularly impressive as he curled in past Jordan Pickford from distance.

However, watching on for TNT Sports, Ally McCoist was more impressed with the assist from James Maddison, who somehow managed to squirm the ball to the Brazilian despite being under huge pressure.

“I’ll tell you what’s special before the finish, Maddison’s feet are remarkable. He gives a one yard pass I know it sounds crazy but it’s a one yard pass and I’ll tell you what, it’s an absolutely beautiful goal,” McCoist said.

Maddison shows his class

James Maddison has had a lot of praise this season but it’s with good reason and he showed today just why Tottenham have missed him so much.

The way he moved the ball for the goal McCoist talks about here sums the England man up. It was quick feet, quick thinking and then perfect execution to make a difference.

It’s scary to think that Maddison only cost Tottenham around £40m in the summer. That fee already looks a massive bargain and you’d say now he’s worth at least double that.

Of course, not winning the game will be a huge frustration for Tottenham and Maddison today, especially after going 2-1 up.

However, if Maddison produces more moments like this between now and May, then the top four will be well within reach.

And with that, you can bet Maddison will also book his place on the plane for the Euros with England.
