It may now be too difficult for Arsenal to sign £50m player in January

There have been plenty of stories about Douglas Luiz and Arsenal over the past two weeks or so.

The Brazilian is said to be a top target for the Gunners heading into the January transfer window, but ESPN’s James Benge has avoided writing about this rumour just yet.

Speaking on Inside Arsenal, Benge states that he’s not put anything in an article about Luiz and Arsenal yet because he’s not been given any indication that this deal is doable in January, claiming that Aston Villa are going to make this one very hard for Arsenal and that he finds it hard to imagine this one actually happening.

Luiz to Arsenal very difficult

Benge spoke about this rumour regarding the £50m man and why he’s not written about it yet.

“I’ve steered clear of putting anything down in an article about Douglas Luiz until I get any sense that it’s doable. Villa are going to make it so hard. They would be mad to sell Douglas Luiz, and I don’t think Luiz would expect to be allowed to go in January, it’s one I find hard to see happening, but it’s one Arsenal are exploring whether they can make happen,” Benge said.

Tough

Benge is absolutely right, it’s going to be very difficult for Arsenal to do this deal.

Luiz has only become more and more important to Aston Villa this season, and with the Villans looking to qualify for the Champions League this season, it’s hard to imagine they’ll be in the business of selling their best players in January.

Factor in that Unai Emery won’t want to do his former club any sorts of favours after his departure from the Emirates a few years ago, and this deal looks more and more difficult to do.

We’d be shocked to see this deal get over the line in January.
