‘It makes total sense’… Pundit says he wants to see £25m player back at Arsenal now

Arsenal have a left-back issue at the moment.

Against Fulham, both Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu struggled in that position, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jurrien Timber remain out injured.

It’s been suggested by both Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein that Arsenal could soon be in the market for a new full-back, but the Gunners do already have a player on their books who could do a job in that role.

Indeed, Kieran Tierney is still technically an Arsenal player, and there’s been plenty of chat about the Scot returning to the Emirates soon.

Speaking on The Handbrake Off podcast, Adrian Clarke has been discussing the idea of Tierney coming back to Arsenal, and he reckons that it would make total sense for the defender to come back to the Emirates this month.

Tierney return makes sense

Clarke spoke about the £25m man.

“We are, Timber has been out all season, so we don’t really know what it’s like to have him. Tomiyasu was the cover guy on the right and the left, but he’s been unavailable. I’m with Amy here, I think it makes total sense to recall Kieran Tierney, left-back is a problem position at the moment, Tierney you know what you can get and he can also be a third centre-back, as a player I would 100% recall him now,” Clarke said.

Do they need him?

As much as we like Tierney as a player, we can’t help but ponder whether or not Arsenal actually need him.

Yes, he’s more of a natural than Kiwior or Tomiyasu at left-back, but he doesn’t play as an inverted full-back, while Zinchenko and Timber will be back sooner rather than later.

Tierney wouldn’t get many minutes if he were to come back to Arsenal now, and, in our view, the Gunners’ best bet is to leave him at Real Sociedad before re-assessing the situation at the end of the season.
