Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes the impact of Thomas Partey will dictate what the Gunners do next in the transfer market.
Speaking to the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Campbell was offering his thoughts on a number of situations at his former club, including how they will act in the coming transfer windows.
Arsenal are said to be in a transition period at the moment, with more movement both in and out expected in the next few windows. The likes of Houssem Aouar were heavily linked in the summer, while the likes of Partey and Gabriel arrived.
And Campbell believes it is the signing of Partey that might well dictate who the Gunners target in the coming windows.
“You could say, okay, if Thomas Partey is going to move a bit further forward, go out and get Ndidi to sit in there. No problem, but it just depends, you can either get an Aouar who gets further forward, or you get an Ndidi type so that Partey can do box to box.”
Partey – who earns a reported £200k-a-week – has made a fast start to his Arsenal career and is already seen as integral in the middle of the park. Of course, a fine performance at Old Trafford helped cement his status in the Gunners squad early doors.
It will, then, be interesting to see what direction Mikel Arteta goes. With Mesut Ozil still out of the picture, an attacking midfield player does seem most likely at this moment.
Partey is quality but he needs help – TBR View
Campbell makes a good point here about Partey being able to play a couple of different roles. He’s a fine player and looks comfortable doing numerous roles in the midfield.
But good players want other good players with them and if Arsenal are to challenge, then they need more through the door to compliment the Ghana star.
Hopefully, for Gunners fans, the board backs Arteta again in the next few windows and they can see the very best of Partey in the coming season and beyond.
