‘It is very difficult’ – Maresca on another loan for Guiu amid Regis Le Bris stance

Enzo Maresca has been quizzed on a potential loan move for Marc Guiu ahead of Chelsea taking on Sunderland.

The 19-year-old was expected to spend the 2025/26 season on loan at the Stadium of Light, but Guiu was recalled by the Blues following an injury to Liam Delap.

He has struggled for consistent minutes on the back of his return to West London, but did score in the 5-1 hammering of Ajax earlier this week.

Now, ahead of Chelsea and Sunderland clashing on Saturday, Maresca has been fielding questions about the Spaniard’s future.

Enzo Maresca admits Chelsea loaning Marc Guiu could be difficult

Speaking to the media during his pre-match press conference, the Italian was unable to give a definitive response on whether the striker will be loaned out again.

As per BBC Sport, he said:  “Oh my god. We are in October. I don’t know. In football, things can change very quick, for everyone; for players, for managers, for everyone.

“It is very difficult to say.”

Maresca did, however, say that Guiu is ready to play more in the Premier League.

He added: “Absolutely he is ready to start. As I’ve said already many times, he is going to play games with us.

“We know Joao [Pedro] can play as a nine or 10 – in both positions I think Joao is very good but when he has another nine next to him he plays better.”

The Chelsea boss also confirmed Delap is nearing a return from his injury, which is good news for the Blues but leaves the ex-FC Barcelona gem in a bit of a tricky situation.

If the Blues do decide to loan Guiu again, there is only one club he can move to, but as Regis Le Bris has explained, that may no longer be something Sunderland need.

Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris on Marc Guiu

Le Bris was asked about the Black Cats making another loan approach for the Chelsea youngster in January.

But, as per the Evening Standard, the Frenchman said Sunderland are not in the market for a striker right now, which is not ideal for the player now that he has already played for two teams this season.

“[It is] too early to say [about an approach for Guiu]. The problem with him is he played for Sunderland and played for Chelsea. So, if he has to go on loan, it’s only for Sunderland.

“So, it might be the only choice, but it’s up to us to decide. And at the minute we have good strikers and we don’t need anything at the minute.”
