West Ham United defender Issa Diop has the chance to increase his growing reputation further this weekend, as he comes faces to face with Sergio Aguero.
The Hammers welcome Manchester City to the London Stadium on Saturday, with the Premier League champions in a rich vein of form coming into the match.
City are top of the pile on 32 points from 12 games, two ahead of Liverpool in second.
West Ham have made an indifferent start to the 2018/19 season and sit 13th after 12 games, with Manuel Pellegrini arguably still managing a transition phase.
The Irons have slowly been improving under the Chilean, but it’ll be their biggest test of the season as Pep Guardiola and City pitch up in the capital.
City’s firepower is frightening, but with Diop perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for the hosts.
Diop versus Aguero
The French centre half has impressed at his new club following a £22 million move from Toulouse in the summer (BBC Sport).
The giant defender has caught the eye with some strong tackling and dominant aerial play so far, and has fared well against the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alvaro Morata, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Harry Kane.
But the 21-year-old could be in for his toughest battle yet as Aguero comes to town. The Argentine hitman, recently revealed to have actually cost City just £31.5 million, has hit eight Premier League goals so far.
He has been around for a while now in English football, but remains as deadly in front of goal than ever.
He is likely to give Diop his toughest challenge, and if the star can hold his own against arguably the best in the division, then he will have more than proved he is the real deal.
