‘Isn’t a fluke’: BBC pundit discusses Liverpool trait which helps make them ‘so extraordinary’

BBC Sport pundit Pat Nevin praised a Liverpool trait which is “one of the reasons” that the Reds are “so extraordinary” during Monday night’s Premier League victory at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges ended up having a fairly difficult night at the office against West Ham as Georginio Wijnaldum’s ninth-minute opener was cancelled out by Issa Diop’s headed goal three minutes later.

Liverpool then fell behind in the 54th minute, Pablo Fornais firing home, and there were real fears that the Reds could see their unbeaten league run end at 27 games.

However, the hosts hit back through Mohamed Salah in the 68th minute, before finally returning into the lead – which they would not relinquish this time – through Sadio Mane.

Each of Liverpool’s goals was assisted by a full-back – Trent Alexander-Arnold for the first and third, Andy Robertson for the second.

Nevin spoke highly of the two players, telling BBC Sport (21:39) after Liverpool’s third goal: “All three goals have come from full back assists.

“That isn’t a fluke, it happens all the time. That’s one of the reasons Liverpool have been so extraordinary.”

The Liverpool juggernaut shows no sign of stopping – even in games where things look to be going wrong, the Reds have enough resolve, tenacity and quality to get over the line – and the full-backs are an absolutely crucial part of this juggernaut.

Robertson has seven assists in the league term, plus one goal, while Alexander-Arnold has 12 assists and two goals – not to mention the duo’s constant tormenting of opposition defences time and time again with their skill, intensity and energy.

Nothing about this Liverpool team is a fluke – Klopp has put together a dream team that is just four wins away from the title.
