After being an unused substitute in the previous game, Ismaila Soro would have known how important it was that he made the most of his opportunity as he came on for Celtic at the weekend.

Soro was brought on with 20 minutes remaining as the Hoops looked to defend a 2-1 lead against Motherwell on Saturday.

His introduction came four minutes after the visitors had got a goal back. So it was imperative that Celtic fans received a reminder of why he had impressed many with his recent emergence into the side.

Celtic did secure the three points. And Soro ended up coming away from the game boasting a remarkable statistic.

As shown by Whoscored.com, the 22-year-old won four tackles. That, in itself, is outstanding given how long he was playing for.

But that tally becomes even more incredible when you consider that no player on either side could match it.

Scott Brown and Stephen O’Donnell both managed three. Meanwhile, Jonjoe Kenny was amongst a host of players who won two challenges.

It is surprising that Brown seems to be getting the nod over Soro at present. The title race is not yet decided mathematically, but Celtic should arguably have one eye on next season and the players who could take them back to the summit.

Brown has been an incredible servant for the Bhoys. But Soro is the one who could become a mainstay of the Celtic midfield for years to come – as his cameo proved.
