Tottenham are reportedly keen on midfielder Florian Grillitsch from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim.
Accoridng to Sky Sports, Spurs representatives have been eyeing the 23-year-old this campaign and have been impressed by his performances in the German top flight.
The report details that he is still under contract with Hoffenheim until 2021, but he’s believed to have an £18million realise clause in his deal.
It is understood that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are drawing up a shortlist of potential successors to Mousa Dembele, who could reportedly soon complete a move to the Chinese Super League.
Grillitsch could be snapped up for an £18million fee, but would he be a potential bargain for Spurs?
Grillitsch is currently an important player in the Hoffenheim side, who are seventh-placed in the Bundesliga table.
He is a defensive midfielder that usually operates in front of the back and the comparisons between him and Dembele make sense.
The Austria international is renowned for his no-nonsense approach in the centre of the park and he’s continued improving since he joined from Werder Bremen.
£18million is a fairly minimal fee for a top midfielder and Grillitsch could be a snip given his immense potential.
The all-action midfielder is not quite at an elite level, but already has Champions League experience and would surely get better under Pochettino.
It seems unlikely that Spurs will spend huge amounts of money in the immediate future due to their stadium move and could pick up a highly-rated ace in Grillitsch for a decent fee.
