Midfield enforcer
Eric Dier enjoyed a stellar season in a Tottenham shirt playing usually in a central defensive midfield position. However, due to Dier’s versatility and the fact that Spurs require strength in depth for the upcoming campaign, Victor Wanyama fits the bill as a midfield enforcer to provide competition for the young Englishman.
Southampton’s Wanyama played under Mauricio Pochettino on the South Coast, and rumour has it the pair could be reunited in North London. The Kenyan international would add a steely spine to the Spurs midfield, and at just 24 he represents a solid long term investment. The Saints bought Wanyama for around £12.5 million and would likely want to recoup as much of this fee as possible.
However, as Wanyama only has 12 months left on his contract, the ball may well be in Daniel Levy’s court. The fact that he should easily be able to fit back into Pochettino’s way of playing makes a move for the ex-Celtic man very plausible indeed.
