If any team other than Leicester City had won the Premier League, last season would have been classed as a success for Tottenham. Yes, they slipped behind North London rivals Arsenal at the season’s close, but top four was the aim at the start and that was comfortably achieved, playing some very attractive and expansive football along the way. A third placed finish gets Spurs straight into the group stages of the Champions League, for the first time since the 2010/11 season, and for only the third time in the club’s history.
This poses an interesting dilemma for Mauricio Pochettino; to what extent does he strengthen his squad to compete on all fronts, without upsetting the evident harmony in the dressing room at White Hart Lane (and now Wembley too). With Mourinho, Guardiola, Conte and Klopp all embarking on their first full season at their respective new clubs, ‘Poch’ and Spurs cannot rest on their laurels too much with regards to new signings. Here are three suggested signings to strengthen the squad depth of Tottenham, to enable the Lilywhites to be a real challenge on all fronts, domestically and abroad next season.
