Zlatan Ibrahimovic; one of the greatest strikers in the world, could be about to make his way to the Premier League.

Following Louis Van Gaal’s departure and José Mourinho’s imminent appointment at Old Trafford, every news outlet in the UK has reported that the Swedish genius will become Mourinho’s first signing, but is Zlatan the right player for Manchester United?

First off, he is a goal-scorer, there’s no denying that. During his time at Paris Saint-Germain, he bagged and extraordinary 113 goals in 122 games. A supply of goals is just one addition that United desperately need – last season they managed to hit the back of the net on just 49 occasions in the league, the fewest the club have ever managed in the Premier League era. Ibra would score goals – that’s a certainty and could transform Manchester United back into the attacking team they used to be under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ibrahimovic has not stayed at any one of his many clubs for longer than three seasons, and has already confirmed that he will be leaving the French champions this summer. At the age of 34, this could be one of his final moves and the perfect time to take on the Premier League. He might not be as quick as he once was, but this is all made up for by his strength and creativity. The fact that he has finally decided he has done all he can in Ligue 1 and wants a new challenge is hardly a surprise when you take a look at his achievements at PSG: four Ligue 1’s, two Coupe de France trophies, three Trophée des Champions and three Coupe de la Ligue titles.

A move to Manchester United and the Premier League would give Zlatan that new challenge he’s looking for. The most prestigious medal in club football is one that is still missing from his collection – that of a Champions League winner. The Red Devils will not have a shot at this next season but surely will in their 2017/18 campaign, especially with the addition of the Swede to their ranks. He would also like to add to his 13 league championships, as he has already picked up the trophy in a record breaking four leagues; two in the Eredivisie with Ajax, six in Serie A with Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan, one in La Liga with Barcelona and the aforementioned four in Ligue 1 with PSG.

On the flip side, you have to worry that all he has is eyes for a big paycheck rather than passion of the game or heart for the club. With other offers made for the Swedish superstar, you can imagine he has been offered a huge amount of money from the super-rich Asian clubs; to name one example, but with Manchester United’s owners stating that ‘money will be no object’ next season, it is looking all the more likely that he will be on his way to Old Trafford.

The forward also has an ego that could rival that of Kanye West. This could prove troublesome for José Mourinho – the incumbent manager at Manchester United. As we all know, the Portuguese also likes to be the centre of attention and the most important person at the club, something that Ibrahimovic might not be too comfortable with.

Finally, the age-old question must be posed; can he do it on a cold, wet and windy Tuesday night in stoke. Nobody will have the answer to this until it happens, but he has managed just fine with every other club he’s played for so I’m sure he’ll take The Bet365 stadium in his stride.

All of the speculation aside, one thing is for sure – Zlatan is on the move and most football fans would love to see him terrorising Premier League defences next season.
