Is there any team that can stop Scottish champions Celtic?

Celtic fans could not have enjoyed a better season than last. Brendan Rodgers’ all-conquering side cemented their status as ‘The Invincibles’ after having gone the entire Premier League season without tasting defeat. Sealing an undefeated domestic season and the treble, there wasn’t much the Scottish champions did not accomplish.

With the new Scottish Premiership season kicking off tomorrow, the Hoops are already looking as though they will continue in the same fashion. The Bhoys have performed well in their pre-season friendlies and have not been beaten in any of the Champions League qualifying rounds.

Their 0-1 win against Rosenborg showed how strong the Celtic side still are. And what’s more, they did it without the talents of their top scorer, the highly-rated French youngster Moussa Dembele.

On the weekend that Celtic wrapped up the league, the continued struggles of rivals Rangers were thrown into sharper focus and it was a reminder that they are still a long way of challenging their fierce rivals, even with new boss Pedro Caixinha at the helm.

The Gers still have work to do to even challenge Aberdeen, never mind Celtic.

The big dream in the hearts of every Hoops fan is the 10-in-a-row, and with Rangers still struggling, how likely is it? With the Scottish Premiership starting, is there any team that can stop them?

It is hard to underestimate the extent of how dominant Celtic have been over the last few seasons (with Rangers causing them no problems when they returned to the top flight), but the club took things up a gear with regard to both performance and recruitment when Rodgers arrived.

Many believe that Celtic’s relatively youthful squad can easily win the four remaining titles required to reach the unprecedented 10-in-a-row achievement, especially with the likes of Dembele, Scott Sinclair, Leigh Griffiths and the much-improved Stuart Armstrong.

So, perhaps the biggest threat to Celtic is their own success?

The more successful the players are, the more attention they receive from big clubs in each transfer window, and some of Celtic’s biggest stars have already found themselves targeted by other major clubs.

Although the Glasgow outfit have managed to hang on to their key squad players, it might only be a matter of time before irresistible offers start coming in from major clubs south of the border, from the Premier League and Europe.

The Champions League could also pose a threat to Celtic, because have a good run in Europe does not always match up with having a good domestic season – just look at Leicester’s story.

If Rodgers can keep the core of his first team then, if it comes down to pitch performance, there is every chance that their wish of 10 straight titles will happen. However, if players decide to leave, or if their rivals reapidly improve, they could find that their extraordinary run come to an end, sooner rather than later.

Although Caixinha may have won over players with a new approach to training, Rangers are still a long way of competing for the domestic title. Not just financially, but also in terms of performance and recruitment.

They have not been able to offer Celtic any sort of challenge since they exited the top flight, and no one has took their place in doing so, although Aberdeen have come closest.

Aberdeen are a strong team, and manager Derek McIness has shown that on their best days they can beat anyone – there’s a reason they are firmly established as the second best team in Scotland.

Therefore, some investment in the right players could push them closer to Celtic.

If Aberdeen are not able to stop Celtic, then it is unlikely that any other team in the Premier League could.
