Is Sam Greenwood in contention to make Leeds bench against Arsenal?

While he is yet to make his first-team debut at Elland Road, Leeds United’s move to sign Sam Greenwood from Arsenal looks to have the potential to prove one of the most inspired deals the Whites pulled off in the summer.

Greenwood has been outstanding for the under-23s. He has scored five goals in five appearances in Premier League 2. That included a hat-trick against another former club in Sunderland.

It looks to be a matter of time before he makes his senior bow for the Whites.

And perhaps, there has been a potential hint that Marcelo Bielsa could be considering Greenwood for a spot on the bench on Sunday when Leeds host the Gunners at Elland Road.

As always, Leeds posted a video on their YouTube channel showing clips from training this week. And amongst those involved was Greenwood.

Admittedly, it does not seem to be uncommon for under-23 prospects to be involved in Bielsa’s training sessions. The Leeds boss tends to work with a small squad, so there will surely be times when he wants greater numbers.

Of course, there is also every chance that he will have wanted to give Greenwood a taste of training with the senior players. That is where he will want to be on a regular basis sooner or later.

But perhaps his presence could suggest that he could be named in the match day squad on Sunday.

Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford will surely start if fully fit and available. Tyler Roberts does provide cover. But the Wales international has struggled to make an impact so far this term.

So promoting Greenwood to the bench will arguably make a lot of sense to many.

And there may be no better way to announce himself than to make an impression against the club he left in the summer.
