Is Manchester United’s Ashley Young set for a £10million move to China?

According to reports in The Mirror over the past 24 hours, Manchester United’s Ashley Young could be set for a big-money move away from Old Trafford to China over the next few weeks.

Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng are allegedly about to offer Young £5.2 million-per-year for a move to Asia, in a deal that would cost around £10 million.

United, who brought Young from Aston Villa for £17 million , are believed to be happy for the move to go ahead as long as the right offer is made, with the 31-year-old not part of Mourinho’s plans.

If the move goes ahead, Young would meet up with ex-Southampton striker Graziano Pelle, who left the Premier League to move to Shandong for £13 million last season.

Young has only made four Premier League appearances under Jose Mourinho this season, being well-and-truly pushed down the Manchester United pecking order below the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard.

During these four games he’s struggled to make any sort of impact, not managing a single shot at goal, and this missed opportunity to make a statement could leave him with no choice but to leave Old Trafford if it is first-team football that he desires.

Young also started in Manchester United’s FA Cup third-round tie against Reading, but it wasn’t his finest match; despite being played out of positon at right-back once again, he looked completely devoid of confidence and nowhere near sharp enough to be compete for a regular starting berth.

Even when he ventured forward as United dominated possession, his bad habits re-surfaced as he went over too easily just outside the box – he was fortunate to escape without a booking for diving.

A wild lunge late in the first-half did eventually earn him a card, but he arguably shouldn’t have been on the pitch; it’s a sad affair when Young, once touted to be the future of United and the England national side, only makes an impact for all the wrong reasons nowadays.

The Mirror suggest that West Brom are one of a number of Premier League sides showing interest in signing the 31-year-old, and are willing to provide him with regular game-time, but Tony Pulis’ side are unable to compete with the financial incentive from Shandong Luneng and will likely miss out.

Mourinho has already seen Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin leave the club this transfer window, and the out-of-favour Young could be the next to be shown the exit door at Old Trafford.
