Is limited Costel Pantilimon the weak link for Nottingham Forest?

The Romanian came in for some stick after his performance against Aston Villa.

Nottingham Forest scored five goals at Villa Park in midweek but still failed to come away with a win. The Tricky Trees drew 5-5 with their Championship rivals. It was a game devoid of defensive duties and several of the Nottingham Forest players did not cover themselves in glory.

One player who is certainly dividing fans at the moment is Costel Pantilimon. He might have done better with one of Aston Villa’s goals but overall his performance was not eye-catchingly poor.

However, some Forest fans are rightly getting frustrated with his displays in between the sticks.

The Romanian, despite his tall stature, is not great at collecting crosses and his distribution, at times, is awful.

Nottingham Forest fans are likely wishing for a more accomplished stopper. On Twitter this week, some were even calling him the club’s weak link.

The 6ft 8ins stopper is believed to be one of the highest earners at the City Ground and at the moment he is not quite earning his keep.

Nottingham Forest have the experienced Luke Steele and academy product Jordan Smith in reserve and it is hard to see how either would provide a solution as the alternative.

Forest fans will just have to hope that Pantilimon finds his best form in the coming weeks and months.
