Miguel Almiron extended his run without a Newcastle goal last night in a 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Almiron, 25, was brought in to take on the creative burden in a workmanlike side in January but has also failed to lay on an assist in black and white.
That is such a poor record for a player who plays in his position and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher feels Steve Bruce needs to take the midfielder out of the firing line.
“I do think now it’s come to the stage where Almiron has to come out of the team,” Carragher said on Sky Sports Main Event (10:25pm, 2511).
“I actually in someways feel a little bit sorry for him. To not get a goal or an assist that’s hard to do as an attacking player. I think it may now be time for him to come out.”

Christian Atsu would provide pace and directness, as well as greater Premier League experience than Almiron.
For his own good, he needs to come out of the side to ease the pressure on him to get off the mark. Bruce also needs to try something different because he still hasn’t found a formula for goals at this stage of the season.
