Is Guehi the first player to win successive FA Cups with different clubs?

Marc Guehi has now won the FA Cup in back-to-back seasons after Manchester City defeated Chelsea at Wembley.

An excellent goal from Antoine Semenyo saw the Citizens record a 1-0 win over the west Londoners, bouncing back in style after losing the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace last term by the same scoreline.

With Guehi helping the side he defeated last season win the FA Cup this time around, many were left wondering if the England international is the first player to win the competition twice in a row with different clubs.

Interestingly, three other players have achieved the feat before the Chelsea academy graduate.

The first to pull off this accomplishment was Arthur Kinnaird way back in 1879.

Kinnaird won the FA Cup with Wanderers in 1878, beating the Royal Engineers by a 3-1 scoreline.

He then joined Old Etonians, where he lifted the prestigious trophy again at the first attempt with a 1-0 win over Clapham Rovers.

Kinnaird was followed by Brian Talbot exactly a century later. Talbot won the 1978 FA Cup with Ipswich Town, defeating Arsenal 1-0 at the old Wembley Stadium in front of a crowd of 100,000, before winning the 1979 FA Cup the following season with the Gunners after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Manchester United.

The last man to win successive FA Cup titles with different clubs before Guehi – who Manchester United wanted – was a much more familiar face for younger readers in Olivier Giroud.

The Frenchman was part of the Arsenal side who lifted the trophy in 2017 after a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, assisting Aaron Ramsey for a late winner.

Giroud then signed for Chelsea in January 2018, starting up top alongside Eden Hazard as he helped the Blues record a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the 2018 FA Cup final.

Guehi – who Liverpool almost signed – has now become the fourth, and just the second to do it with the very same side he defeated first time around after the aforementioned Talbot.
