Is Asier Illarramendi moving to Real Madrid?
Asier Illarramendi Andonegi, a Real Sociedad youth academy product, has recently been approached by La Liga (Liga BBVA) giants, Real Madrid. The side who finished second place last season, behind FC Barcelona.
Illarramendi was born on the 8th March 1990 in Mutriku, Gipuzkoa, a Basque region situated in the Northern center of Spain.
He plays mainly as a central midfielder, occasionally in a more defensive role. He has proved to be one of the club’s key players over the past season, his form has been rewarded with a contract extension which is due to last until 30/06/2018.
Illarramendi has participated for the Spanish national team at Under 17, 19, 21 and 23 level. He played twelve matches with the under 17 national team, one official match with the Under 19’s, 16 matches with the Under 21 team and finally one fixture for the Spanish under 23’s.
So, what makes this player so special that Real Madrid president, Perez, has expressed his interest with a bid of €30,000,000?
Illarramendi played for Real Sociedad’s first team for two complete seasons and ab eleven exhausting months. He helped the team crush Valencia’s hope of being in the 4th rank under Atletico Madrid.
Since the opening of the 2013/2014 summer transfer window, Xabi Alonso has refused to sign a new Real Madrid contract and after the leaking of this incident, former Real Madrid and current Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has stepped up his interest for the veteran.
Illarramendi is a perfect replacement for Alonso. The two players are both products of the Sociedad youth academy. Both are free kick specialists, both have an abnormal ability to spot players from long distance, both also have the fitness of a motor engine, both have great tackling and marking abilities of a defender and both are extremely accurate with long distance balls.
Illarramendi caught the eye of Real Madrid due to his impressive in-matche performances. This season he has regularly exposed his superb talent. At the age of 23 he is certainly a player for the future, he would be an excellent signing for Real Madrid.
