Is Andre Gomes the heir to Mikel Arteta at Everton?
Everton fans have had to wait patiently this season to watch Andre Gomes in action, but his performances in the last four matches have been a joy to watch.
The 25-year-old midfielder is currently on a season-long loan at Goodison Park from Barcelona and has managed to bring real flair to Merseyside already.
He is a central midfielder that runs the show with his range of passing and intelligence on the ball, while he’s not afraid to put his foot in too.
The Portuguese deep-lying playmaker has already become a popular face with Toffees supporters and he could be set for some season if he continues in the same vein.
Everton haven’t quite had a midfield general like Gomes since Mikel Arteta, so if he the heir to his throne at Goodison?
The similarities between the pair are quite clear and Gomes looks like he can help dictate the midfield battle just like ex-Everton ace Arteta.
Arteta is regarded by many supporters as one of the more talented players to feature for the club in the 21st century and it’s far too soon to get carried away by Gomes after just four games in English football.
But there is no denying the pedigree of the Portugal international and he looks a great fit for the Premier League.
Everton fans can only hope Gomes continues to impress this year and that a permanent switch is on the horizon.
