A number of Liverpool fans have waxed lyrical about Jordan Henderson’s performance in Saturday’s controversial Merseyside derby encounter.
The Reds took on Everton at Goodison Park and played out a 2-2 draw, though Jurgen Klopp’s charges were denied a late goal in the Premier League clash.
Liverpool saw two contentious decisions go against them, the first involving a Jordan Pickford foul on Virgil van Dijk that could’ve warranted a penalty and sending off.
VAR checked the incident for a possible offside and, once given, did not check for a possible red card for the sixth-minute challenge, which saw the Dutchman forced out of the game.
Liverpool had taken the lead three minutes earlier through Sadio Mane, but Michael Keane equalised in the 19th minute.
The second half saw Mohamed Salah put the Reds in front again, only for the prolific Dominic Calvert-Lewin to draw Everton level again.
Carlo Ancelotti’s charges finished the game with ten men after Richarlison was sent off for a reckless foul on Thiago Alcantara, and then came arguably the main controversy of the game.
Mane received Thiago’s pass and picked out Henderson for a goal that Pickford should’ve kept out, only for the Senegal ace to be deemed offside and the goal chalked off.
The Liverpool captain showed just how much he was missed at Aston Villa with a dominant and assured display right from the off.
Henderson was superb in possession, relentless off the ball, came close with a second-half effort and was cruelly denied what should have been a late winner.
Here is what some Liverpool fans were saying about the £140,000-a-week ace during and after the game:
What a footballer Jordan Henderson is. Outstanding

It’ll get overlooked with all the controversy but plenty in that to be happy about. Henderson/Thiago were incredible and Salah getting his 100th goal for the club. 🤞🏻Van Dijk isn’t out for too long.

Jordan Henderson brilliant on his return. Took charge of midfield, faultless in possession and generally outstanding to watch. Worked really well with Thiago, who was also exceptional. Late derby winner would’ve been a fitting way to cap off his performance.

Incredible how much we’ve missed Henderson what a player that man is absolutely outstanding today 👏🏼

Henderson was MOTM, absolutely outstanding performance. The defence without VVD and Alisson is woefully inept.

Thought Henderson was superb today by the way. Thiago will get a lot of the plaudits but Henderson deserved that goal at the end
