There could be an Old Firm transfer battle on the cards in the remaining few weeks of the summer transfer window as both Celtic and Rangers eye up a potential move for World Cup icon Milad Mohammadi.
The left-back was behind one of the competition’s funniest moment, attempting a somersault throw-in in injury time of Iran’s crucial group stage game against Spain, but caught the eye with his speed and efficient defending in his two appearances at the competition.
The 24-year-old is believed to be available for £2 million, according to The Scottish Sun, with both Scottish clubs considering a move for the Akhmat Grozny defender, who can also play as a wing-back or even a winger and has previously featured on the right hand side as well as his more comfortable position on the left.
If Mohammadi is to be wise this summer, he will avoid the temptation of making the move to Celtic and will join Steven Gerrard’s revolution at Rangers where it is immediately clear how he would slot into the team in the left-back role.

Declan John has been on the bench in the early stages of Gerrard’s reign with Lee Wallace frozen out due to off the field politics, meaning that the Liverpool legend has selected John Flanagan on the left of defence in Europa League qualifiers, an option which does not seem sustainable throughout a full season.
In comparison, at Celtic Park, Kieran Tierney has the left-back role all sewn up and whilst there were doubts about his future, BBC Sport say that Everton have ended their interest in a move which could see him remain in the Scottish Premier League for another year at least.
Mohammadi, with no experience of European football, has the potential to succeed given his impressive attributes and comfort against some of the best in the game, including Cristiano Ronaldo and Marco Asensio, at the World Cup, should know that regular football is what he will need to settle, and he is far more likely to get that at Ibrox than he is under Brendan Rodgers.
