Iorfa’s arrival at Celtic could ease pain of Boyata and Lustig departures

Celtic are reportedly eager to sign Dominic Iorfa for next season. According to The Scotsman, Celtic want to sign Iorfa from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a pre-contract agreement.

Iorfa is out of favour at Wolves and it is unlikely that his contract will be extended, making him available as a free agent at the end of the season.

And despite his lack of playing time in recent seasons, Celtic want to offer Iorfa an escape route for the 2019/20 campaign.

The 23-year-old burst onto the scene as a youngster at Wolves, playing nearly 100 games before his 22nd birthday.

But last season, Iorfa was sent on loan to Ipswich Town as he was not wanted by Nuno Espirito Santo. And this term, he is even further away from the first-team.

And the ex-England under-21 star can provide Celtic with perfect back-up options at right-back and centre-back.

Right-back Mikael Lustig is out of contract at the end of the season and The Scottish Sun claim that Celtic want to find a replacement for him.

Meanwhile, central defender Dedryck Boyata’s agent has confirmed that the Belgium international will depart in the summer, The Scottish Sun reports.

If Celtic can snap Iorfa up on a pre-contract agreement, then they already have cover in both those positions.

Iorfa’s primary position is at right-back but given his 6ft 4in frame, he is also comfortable at centre-back, making him the ideal candidate for Brendan Rodgers.
