Inzaghi wowed by the technical ability of two Liverpool players ahead of CL clash

Liverpool full-backs Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been lauded by Simone Inzaghi ahead of their Champions League clash.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds cruised into the last 16 of the competition by winning all six of their Group B games.

This included victories over Inter Milan’s city rivals AC Milan.

Liverpool will now face Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri in the knockouts, playing the first leg in Italy on Wednesday night.

The Reds will then contest the second leg at Anfield on Tuesday 8 March.

Speaking at his pre-Liverpool press conference, Inzaghi spoke of upcoming opponents.

The Inter media team asked the coach what he had learnt from Liverpool’s games against the Rossoneri.

Inzaghi singled Jurgen Klopp, Alisson, Virgil van Dijk, and the Reds full-backs, saying the latter are technically incredible.

“We watched those games, as well as Liverpool’s most recent matches,” he told the Inter website.

“Klopp is a wonderful coach. His team always plays with great intensity both in and out of possession.

“Alisson and Van Dijk can play the ball long.

“Their full-backs have the technical ability of playmakers. They can cause you problems all over the pitch.”

“They’re an absolute joy”

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson have been absolutely sensational for Liverpool.

Indeed, Gary Neville has labelled them the best full-back pairing in Premier League history.

In December, he said on his Sky Sports podcast: “These two… I don’t think I’ve seen two full-backs play in the Premier League that are as good as these two as a pair.

“The way in which they combine on the pitch, the way they play the game, they’re an absolute joy.

“Robertson with his consistency does everything well. Defends well, he’s competitive – slightly too much at the end – but he scored a goal and set up a goal.

“Alexander-Arnold is an absolute phenomenon when it comes to the quality of his passing, his delivery. It’s something I’ve never seen before from a full-back.”

Alexander-Arnold and Robertson will likely have a huge say against Inter as they keep fighting on four fronts and seek to regain the trophy they won in 2019.
