Inzaghi comments on Lazio renewal, amid reported interest from Tottenham
Simone Inzaghi has been quoted by Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio on his official website as saying that he has been waiting to renew his contract at Lazio since January 2020 – amid reports that Tottenham Hotspur are considering the highly-rated gaffer to take over at Spurs.
Inzaghi, 45, is out of contract in June despite enjoying six brilliant seasons as Lazio boss – this season taking the Italian outfit to the last 16 of the Champions League, before eventually being knocked out by Bayern Munich. Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport claim Spurs are keeping tabs.
It is said that Inzaghi, brother of AC Milan legend Filippo wants a contract worth between £125,000 and £180,000 – for the next three years. Lazio president Claudio Lotito is struggling to achieve those demands, but it is believed that the two will come to a compromise in the coming days.
Indeed, Inzaghi believes so – quoted by Di Marzio: “I’ve waited 16 months and now, just because we are talking about Lazio and you know what it means to me, I can wait another three days. I’ve always moved on. But for no other team I would have waited so long for a contract renewal.”
TBR’s View – Can Tottenham make a late play?
While it looks as if Tottenham are looking more towards Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag or German schemer Ralf Rangnick, Inzaghi would still be a brilliant appointment – even if his wage demands are high. He plays an attacking brand of football, and demands the best from his players.
If Tottenham made a late play to land Inzaghi – he would surely listen, and he would save Daniel Levy a heap of cash that he is seemingly intent on spending to bring a manager currently in work to Spurs. But it would take some convincing, given Inzaghi seems intent on remaining at Lazio.
