Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker will not start for Brazil in their upcoming fixture as Ederson is set to get the nod, manager Tite has confirmed.

The 28-year-old was ruled out for a couple of games in October due to a shoulder injury.

However, he was back for the Premier League meeting with Sheffield United and has remained in between the sticks since.

Alisson was called up to the Brazil squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay, but Tite confirmed that the Manchester City stopper will be starting the next game.

“Ederson is the starting goalkeeper,” he told Brazilian outlet UOL. “Weverton had a good sequence, two great games, but I spoke with all three.

“Alisson is an excellent goalkeeper, Ederson is going through a great technical and physical period.

“It is an important moment for the game against Venezuela, and Ederson will be the starting goalkeeper.”

Liverpool are currently in the midst of an injury crisis at the back, which has only got worse with Joe Gomez set to miss a significant amount of the season following knee surgery.

Virgil van Dijk is also out long-term, while Fabinho has also been out injured and Trent Alexander-Arnold is now also on the sidelines.

Therefore, Liverpool fans will surely breathe a sign of relief that one of their stars at the back will not be starting in at least one of his country’s games this international break.

And obviously, as a goalkeeper, he’s unlikely to be involved in the match altogether.
